Wimbledon is a good illustration of how South West London was built. The stock here runs to substantial Victorian and Edwardian houses, interwar semis and detached homes, and a large number of period conversions, and the roofs are predominantly well-proportioned pitched roofs with good head height, frequently already converted or part-converted. Within a single street you can find a loft you can stand up and walk around in, and one three doors along where the only sensible approach is to work on your knees.
That variation is exactly why we survey before quoting. Two lofts of identical floor area can differ by a substantial margin in price because one has 150mm joists and a wide hatch, and the other has shallow, irregular timbers, a 400mm opening and a cold water tank sitting in the middle of the run.
Locally, a high proportion of lofts here have already been converted or partly converted, which moves the insulation from the floor to the rafters — worth knowing before you compare quotes.

Wimbledon loft insulation — common questions
Will this improve my EPC rating?
It is one of the most reliable ways to improve a rating, because depth is a direct input rather than an inferred assumption. How far it moves depends on everything else about the Wimbledon property, but the direction is not in doubt.
Do you remove the old insulation?
It depends what is up there. Cross-laying a new layer over sound existing material is both cheaper and perfectly correct. Failed, contaminated or loose-fill material is stripped, bagged and disposed of — slow work, and we show it as its own line on the quote.
Will insulating my loft cause damp?
Correctly installed, no. The risk comes from packing material hard into the eaves and sealing off the airflow the roof depends on. We stop the insulation short and use eaves trays where the pitch requires them.
Do you offer free surveys in Wimbledon?
