Loft Insulation London has been insulating roof spaces across the capital since 2005. We are a specialist installer, not a general builder who also does insulation — and in a trade where the work is hidden the moment it is finished, that distinction matters more than most.
We started because of a pattern we kept seeing. Homeowners were paying for loft insulation and getting almost none of the benefit, because the detail had been ignored: wool crammed into the eaves and choking the ventilation, boards screwed flat onto a 250mm layer and squashing it to 100mm, hatches left as uninsulated holes in an otherwise sealed ceiling. The material was right. The installation was not.
What we actually do
We survey, specify and install loft insulation in domestic properties across Greater London and the surrounding counties. In practice that means five things: mineral wool installation to current building-regulation depth, SuperQuilt multifoil at rafter level where depth is constrained, raised boarding for storage, loft ladders for access, and complete makeovers that combine all four in one visit.
We do not do loft conversions. We are frequently asked, and the honest answer is that a conversion is a structural job requiring building control sign-off, a structural engineer and usually a party wall agreement — a different trade entirely. What we do is the insulation and fit-out work that makes a roof space warm, safe and usable short of that. If you need a conversion, we will say so, and we will insulate it properly once the builders have gone.
How we work
Nobody quotes without looking
We have never given a price over the phone and we do not intend to start. Two lofts with identical floor areas can differ by hundreds of pounds because one has 150mm joists and a wide hatch and the other has 75mm joists, a 400mm opening and a water tank in the middle of the run. A surveyor comes out, measures, and writes a fixed price. There is no call-out charge and no obligation attached to it.
We tell you when the answer is "nothing"
A meaningful proportion of our surveys end with us telling the homeowner their loft is already adequately insulated and they should keep their money. That is not generosity; it is the only sustainable way to run a business that depends on recommendations. If you have 270mm of wool in good condition and a clear eaves gap, there is nothing useful we can sell you, and pretending otherwise would be the fastest possible way to lose a customer's neighbours.
The details that get skipped
Ventilation is the big one. A cold loft has to breathe, and the airflow path at the eaves is the roof's only defence against the moisture rising out of your house. Blocking it with insulation is how a dry loft becomes a damp one over the following two winters. We keep the gap, and where a roof has no meaningful ventilation to begin with we say so and price the remedy rather than burying the problem under a fresh layer of wool.
After that: hatches insulated and draught-stripped, downlighters given proper clearance or fitted with fire hoods, pipework and tanks lagged above the new insulation line, and boarding raised clear on battens so the wool underneath keeps its full depth.
Experience, and what it is worth
London's housing stock is unusually varied and unusually old. Within a single postcode you will find Victorian terraces with shallow, irregular joists and slate roofs on original timbers; interwar semis with generous, square lofts and cold-water tanks; post-war maisonettes with almost no roof space at all; and modern trussed roofs where the webbing makes movement difficult and there is nowhere obvious to walk. Each needs a different approach, and knowing which one you are standing in before you start is most of the job.
Two decades of doing this in the capital specifically is the reason our quotes hold. We are not guessing at what is behind the hatch, and so we are not building a contingency into the price to cover the guess.
Insurance and paperwork
We carry public liability insurance and will send you the certificate before work starts if you ask — landlords and managing agents usually do, and we would rather you had it on file. Product datasheets and declared thermal performance figures are handed over on completion, which is what an EPC assessor will want to see if you are having the property re-rated.

Our installers work in the capital's housing stock every day — Victorian terraces with shallow joists, 1930s semis with cramped eaves, ex-council maisonettes and new-build trussed roofs. That familiarity is what keeps surprises off your quote.
A survey before a price
We never quote from a postcode and a guess. Someone looks in your loft, measures the joist depth, checks the ventilation path and the existing material, and only then writes a fixed price. There is no call-out charge for this.
Work to current standards
Mineral wool goes in to the 270mm depth recommended by current building regulations, eaves ventilation gaps are kept clear, and boarding is raised on battens so it never crushes the insulation underneath.
Public liability insurance
We carry public liability cover and can send you the certificate before we start. If you are a landlord or managing agent and need it on file, just ask.
Clean, careful, and out of your way
Dust sheets on landings, boards over the hatch, old material bagged and taken away. Most jobs are a half-day to a day, so you get your house back the same evening.
Straight answers
If your loft already has adequate insulation, we will tell you so rather than sell you a top-up you do not need. Being told "you're fine" is a perfectly normal outcome of one of our surveys.
