Loft insulation in Croydon

If your Croydon loft has 100mm of flattened wool and a boarded patch balanced on the joists, you are not alone and you are losing money every winter. We fit insulation to the recommended 270mm depth, and raise any boarding clear so it keeps working.

Croydon's homes

Why Croydon lofts need attention

Croydon forms part of South London, an area whose housing is characterised by dense Victorian terraces and villas, interwar semis and a substantial amount of purpose-built and converted flats. The bulk of it went up during the 1860s through the 1930s, decades before insulation was a design consideration at all, and what sits above the ceilings today is usually a retrofit added at some point in the last fifty years to whatever standard was current at the time.

That matters because the standard has moved repeatedly. Lofts insulated in the 1980s typically received 100mm; earlier work was often 50mm or nothing. Current guidance is 270mm. A great many Croydon houses therefore contain insulation that was entirely adequate when it was fitted and is now doing roughly a third of the work it should be — while the homeowner reasonably assumes the loft is 'done'.

Subdivision into flats is very common, so ownership of the roof space is worth establishing before work is booked. It is the sort of thing a survey establishes in ten minutes and a phone quote never can.

Every one of these begins with the same free survey and ends with a fixed price agreed before anything starts.

Rolls and stacked sheets of SuperFOIL multifoil insulation in a converted London loft

At roughly 40mm, multifoil delivers serious performance without stealing headroom — which is why it is the answer for Croydon homes with a room in the roof or a sloping ceiling.

The standard job, done to standard: two layers, the second laid across the joists to kill the cold bridge, eaves left clear. Most Croydon lofts are finished in half a day.

Fitted in a day

Many older Croydon hatches are too small for a ladder to swing through safely. We measure at survey and price any enlargement up front rather than on the day.

Covering Croydon and the surrounding area

We are in and around Croydon most weeks, and the same teams cover Anerley and Wandsworth. Coverage across South London is continuous rather than patchy, so a postcode on the boundary is not a problem.

Questions & answers

Croydon loft insulation — common questions

How long does the work take in a typical Croydon home?

A straightforward insulation job in a three-bedroom Croydon property is a half-day. Larger, cluttered or awkward-access lofts take longer, and stripping out failed material adds time — all of which is established at survey and reflected in the quote.

Do you remove the old insulation?

Where it can stay, it stays and we top over it. Where it cannot, it goes and the disposal is included in the fixed price. You will never find out about removal costs mid-job — that is decided at survey.
