Clerkenwell forms part of Central London, an area whose housing is characterised by Georgian and early Victorian terraces, mansion blocks and converted commercial buildings, much of it listed or in a conservation area. What insulation depth do you fit?
270mm of mineral wool, cross-laid — the depth current building regulations guidance points to for a cold loft. Where a Clerkenwell property has a room in the roof and depth is constrained, we use 40mm multifoil at rafter level instead.
Will insulating my loft cause damp?
Correctly installed, no. The risk comes from packing material hard into the eaves and sealing off the airflow the roof depends on. We stop the insulation short and use eaves trays where the pitch requires them.
Will this improve my EPC rating?
Usually, and often noticeably. Loft insulation depth is recorded directly by the assessor, so increasing it from 100mm to 270mm generally moves the rating. We hand over product documentation and declared performance figures so your assessor records what is actually there.
What happens to the water tank and pipes?
They end up above the new insulation line, in a colder space than before, so they must be lagged. The cold water tank is insulated on its sides and lid but never underneath — the warmth rising from the house is what keeps it from freezing. We handle this as part of the job.
How much does loft insulation cost in Clerkenwell?
